Masseter BOTOX can help reduce the size of enlarged masseter muscles, resulting in a slimmer and more contoured jawline.

What are Masseters and how can BOTOX help treat them?

The masseter muscles are the primary muscles responsible for chewing and are located at the sides of the jawline. When these muscles become enlarged, they can create a square or wide jawline appearance, which some individuals may find aesthetically unpleasing. Enlarged masseter muscles can be caused by several factors, including genetics, teeth grinding (bruxism), and excessive chewing.

Masseter BOTOX injections involve injecting small amounts of the neurotoxin into the masseter muscles. The toxin works by temporarily blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that signals muscle contractions. By inhibiting the muscle contractions, BOTOX helps relax and weaken the masseter muscles, leading to a reduction in their size and a more slender, contoured jawline.

BOTOX for Masseters FAQs

BOTOX, or Botulinum Toxin, is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is commonly known for its cosmetic applications, but it also has various medical uses. One of its lesser-known applications is for treating hypertrophy, or enlargement, of the masseter muscles.

Many people choose this treatment to treat TMJ (Temporal Mandibular Joint) pain. Others use it to make the lower part of their faces more slender for a youthful, inverted triangle shape.

Typically, we inject around 20 Units of Botox per side for a total of 40 Units for both masseter muscles.

The treatment including both sides is usually under $500.

After the treatment, it may take several days to start noticing the effects, and the full results generally become evident within two to four weeks. Over the course of months, the masseter muscles will continue to slim down (atrophy) due to decreased use.

The duration of the effect varies from person to person but typically lasts around three to six months. Regular maintenance treatments are necessary to sustain the desired jawline appearance.

BOTOX injections for masseters are generally considered safe when performed by qualified healthcare professionals. However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects. These can include temporary muscle weakness, pain or discomfort at the injection site, bruising, headaches, and, rarely, asymmetry or difficulty with certain facial movements.
